As a Texas native and a true Texan at heart, Amy Burke might have come from the arid deserts of the panhandle into the lush greens of the Bay Area, but has never considered it anything but an advantage in being able to appreciate every different kind of natural beauty. After moving to Arizona to complete a degree in Sculpture at Arizona State University, Amy entered the floral world almost accidentally, in an attempt for a second income while producing and marketing her own artwork, as well as working on commission pieces for other artists and professors. After a few years this and of international travel in and around the South Pacific, she moved to the Bay Area to pursue a Masters degree in Sculpture at SJSU, as well as pursue her professional career as a sculptor. Instead though, she was so enthralled by the richness in color and texture of both the California landscape and of the sophisticated, yet contemporary style, that she turned her attentions to working mainly in the floral medium. “I love the idea that everything has a beginning and an end: everything natural has only a moment in time to show what it is really made of, what it can be and what it can become. Creating each environment and space with flowers and vines and natural pieces can only be experienced one time in every same formation, and in each of these element’s lives. Viewers and attendees are forced to enjoy and realize the beauty of the moment, and that in them all coming together to witness this special atmosphere, they also become a part of the space and the moment itself.”
